Omolayo Umaru

Dr. Omolayo Umaru is a clinical pharmacist with over 20 years of patient-care experience, and demonstrated commitment to developing the next generation of pharmacy professionals through teaching and preceptorship experiences.

Dr. Umaru has extensive experience in qualitative research methodology, having led focus groups across multiple health systems, and conducted research on women of color in pharmacy and other health professions in the U.S. Her research interests encompass health equity, opioid-use disorders, cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic disease management, and pharmaceutical care amongst diverse populations in the U.S. and West Africa; and her work aims to address healthcare disparities and improve outcomes for refugees, immigrants and other underserved populations. Dr. Umaru has served as a peer reviewer for multiple academic journals, and has published several peer-reviewed articles.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, a Master's degree in Clinical Pharmacy, and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She also completed a Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacy at the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in Social & Administrative Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota.
